Tips for having a Good Week

Many people struggle throughout their week. I know that I used to struggle in the beginning of the week which caused me to have a bad day. What if someone had the answer? What if you could lose these troubles? Well, I have 4 time-proven tips to get through you’re week.

While I can only imagine what’s going through you’re crazy minds, I have a fairly good idea of what you’re thinking about after that electric intro. You’re thinking, “Danny, enough with you’re rambling get on with the tips.” And to those people, I say here they are:

  1. Prioritize
  2. Develop a Morning Routine
  3. Be Organized
  4. Patience

Now you’ve seen the tips but you don’t know the details of them. The details of my tips are essential to fully living them out and to having a good day, week, or year. They break down like this:

1. PRIORITIZE
Having your priorities in order is essential to managing your time. If your time is managed well, it will lead to an easy week filled with the maximuum amount of the things you like and a minimum amount of the boring things in life.

Tip Example
I consistently choose watching TV with my mom, playing football with my Dad, or playing with my puppies over my homework or other responsibilities.

Many people would say that this would be poor prioritizing. These people are either severely ill-informed or have a flawed sense of what “living the life” is. Regardless of their reason for disagreeing with my priorities the main point is that they are wrong. These are the things that I enjoy doing, so I feel as if I should do them as much as I can. In just two short years I won’t be living with my parents an more. I’ll be pursuing a computer engineering degree at the University of Florida. Or I’ll be inputing my political ideas and morals at Harvard or Yale. If I look at the two things in the example, which is going to be more important in the big scope of my life? Will that Algebra assignment really matter to me when I’m a working adult? I personally feel that the time spent with my parents or puppy will be much more valuable. Time is of the essence. Setting your priorities up correctly will always lead to a good week.

Disclaimer: While doing all the stuff you love is great, you must also keep up with your responsibilities. I’m only saying that you should do as much of the stuff you love whenever yo can.

2. DEVELOP A MORNING ROUTINE
I feel that the morning is the most
important time of the day. A major thing to have a good day is by starting it right. I can’t tell you how to start your day, but I can give some pretty good suggestions. I’ll start with my personal morning routine:

  1. Shower >> A hot shower helps me ease into my morning. It wakes me up a little, relaxes my muscles, and it cleans me. I know “it cleans me” sounds goofy, but I like to start my day with that nice fresh feeling.
  2. Eat breakfast >> Many experts say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Never skip your breakfast. What you eat is completely up to you though.
  3. Play with my dog >> He needs the loving and attention in the morning. In addition to that, I enjoy playing with him and he makes me laugh.
  4. Stretch or do something active, like yoga.

All morning routines are different and customized to the individual whom is performing it. The main thing about it is it should make you happy, ease you into the morning, and give you positive thoughts for the day ahead of you. Try to repeat this routine daily for the maximum effect of it.

3. BE ORGANIZED
Organization reduces the frustration in your week. Organize your plans, your thoughts, and anything else you feel is important. Many people don’t view me as organized. However I always know where all my things are. What looks like chaos to some, is actually my organizational pattern. Ordo ab chao. So long as you know where your stuff, thoughts, and homework is, what other people see doesn’t matter. It helps me to know what I have to crack down on.

4. PATIENCE
Patience is a virtue that will pay dividends for you in your week.
Try to have patience with everything and everyone. To have a truly fulfilled week, you must learn to live and let go. If you have to wait for something, so be it. Don’t complain about it. Try to make the best out of the situation you find yourself in.

I can’t promise you that my tips will work, but if you learn to follow them you should at least improve your week a little. If it doesn’t, it seems as though you’re week is already pretty good. If that is the case for you, I don’t know why you read this or are trying to follow it. Thanks for reading, if you liked it or have your own tips, please post them below.

*An un-noted tip is to always attack everything with a positive attitude. If you believe you’re happy, you’ll be happy.

Holiday Season: The Good and the Bad

Snowy

Whether you celebrate Christmas (like me), Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa the holiday season is a time for cheer. You’re surrounded by people who love you and that you generally love. I’m not saying that everyone has the ideal holiday time, but at least you get to see family that you don’t see all the time. I personally had a great holiday. I got to see my Dad’s whole side of the family on Christmas day, and I’ve spent the last week with my Mom’s side of the family in Ohio. With all the excitement, I just now realized that the holiday season isn’t over! Today is the 31st, which means that it’s New Years Eve. I don’t know how you’re celebrating yours, but I know that I’ll have a great night having a snack and movie marathon with my Mom and grandparents, Daboo and Poppop. After that’s over I’ll have my own personal celebration by watching The Hangover on National Hangover Day. I got some really cool stuff over the holidays like calendars, slippers, a longboard, camo gear, and even a new video camera! So I have no doubts that you’ll be seeing some high quality HD youtube videos from me and my friends.

With all of this giving, it made me think about those less fortunate that aren’t getting gifts. I know a lot of them are content with just being with loved ones, but they deserve more. I had this cool idea for a foundation. I think that those people who are buying upgraded, or fancy versions of a product could spend the extra money on those who have none. Here’s how it works:

  1. You join the foundation
  2. Whenever you’re spending excess money on an upgraded or more expensive product, try to give the difference in the products to a charity
  3. If you feel so inclined, donate money to the non-profit organization to maintain the website and fund rewards/interviews/whatever else might come up
  4. Visit the website (still to be named) and share your story on the group forums
  5. Feel good about yourself because you just did a great deed for others!!

I wouldn’t be able to do this by myself, so I’m going to need to recruit a lot of help. I feel really strongly about this and I think that it’s a pretty good idea.

Anyways, it’s time for lobster tails with my family! Peace, and Happy New Years!!

Coding Languages

So I just started teaching myself coding yesterday. I’m starting with a basic PHP tutorial. I’m planning on doing 9 other basic languages and then I was going to go in and refine my skills in PHP, JAVA, Javascript and VB.Net. I ran it through John and he said it sounded good. Also, a microsoft rep is coming to talk to my high school. They’re giving out free copies of Windows 7 which sucks a lot because people who don’t even care about it are going just to get the Windows 7, whereas I’m going because I think it will be interesting. So I probably won’t get a copy. But oh well, John says the experience will be good for me. He’s really a lot of help. He also told me to go and talk to the rep about learning coding in .Net because that’s becoming one of the most popular coding languages.

To those that care: These are the pictures that my Mom and I took at the house that we are thinking about buying. It’s a very nice house with a lot of positive features. Chances are if you’re looking at this then you already know the positive features because you’ve been in contact with her. Without further ado:

.ZIP file of pictures

After you click that here are the directions:

  1. Find the file on your computer (right click file and click show in folder)
  2. Once you’re viewing the file, right click the file and click extract
  3. You should now be able to view the pictures with your favorite picture viewer!

Degradation of Love in Today’s Society

Monday, October 26, 2009 17:15

love
It seems to me that love is one of the most overused words in today’s society. One credible online dictionary defines love:

Love
–noun

1. a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.
2. a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend.
3. sexual passion or desire.
4. a person toward whom love is felt; beloved person; sweetheart.

Walking around high school love is not used in these terms now-a-days. I hear people say stuff like:

  • X, I love you.”     -girl to girl (friendly, not homosexual)*
  • “Thanks so much for the help! I love you!”
  • ” Dude, no homo, but I love you.”

I don’t think that these fall into the definition of the word. Why can’t they say “Thanks” or “You’re the best”. In my opinion love should be reserved for real relationships. Some of the major relationships that love can be used to describe it (but not limited to) are parishioner to God, mother to child, husband to wife, sibling to sibling, fiancé to fiancé, and in some cases boyfriend to girlfriend. That last relationship draws up a good point. Far too many girlfriends are boyfriends are fooled into thinking that they’re in love by their own text. They say it, so therefore it must be true. The sad truth however is that many couples (especially in high school) are not going to stay together until marriage. They don’t share the right interests, they don’t fit together, and their chemistry is simply not there. Although they can feel this absence of love, they still tell each other that they love each other.

I’m not saying that love is not existent in society, it is definitely there, however the word is being way over-used. Some people might say that I’m being hypocritical right now. I’d like to point out that I haven’t criticized anyone. Nor have I stated that I only use “love” in appropriate situations or really mean it every time I use it. This is simply an observation that floated across my mind today in class.

To the few scattered people who read this cough Mom and John cough*, post your feelings on the topic in a comment, or email me at danny@dunlap5.com.

* That wasn’t a sarcastic comment, it was to be taken literally as a conversation between friends. So if a homosexual female reads this and has a problem with it, too bad.

D.D. Technological Advances

Today I applied for my invitation to both Google Wave and Google Voice. I heard about both of them from John. Wave, I honestly have no idea what it is. I’ve read several reviews of it and what-not but I can’t quite figure it out. Google voice gives you a google phone number that you can distribute to friends, family, and business associates. You can then set it up to ring on the various phones depending on who’s calling. Say my Mom is calling me, I’d set it up so that it rings on my cell phone and my house phone. But if it was Home that was calling, I’d have it set so that it only rings on my cell phone.  Besides Google products, I’ve also received a demo copy of Windows 7. I’m planning on uploading it to my computer this week. It’s supposed to be the best out there (John). I set up my twitter yesterday, I’m still getting used to it. Chances are that if you’re reading this, you’re already following me but if not, feel free to follow me. I also learned how to set up an FTP server so I can directly update my websites via Dreamweaver without logging into my hosting account for every little minor change, so that’s proven to be very useful.

School today was pretty good. I have a Math test tomorrow, but besides that, I don’t have any homework. I have a quiz in APUSH which is probably going to be really difficult. I might work on making my reading notes for last chapter a little bit better since they’re due tomorrow. Mom and I have been catching up on our TV shows, which is actually what I’m about to go do.

Hello world!

Hey, so this is my first entry in my brand new blog. John helped me so much in making this thing work, it was really complicated. right now I’m using a free domain, but I think that sometime next week I’m going to change it to www.thedannydunlap.com. I think that it’s a pretty cool one. I just wanted to get this first post out, so now I’m going to work on prettying this blog up.
